Climax Engineered Materials is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. 
CEM was created in 2003 to develop and supply unique metal powders and related products to industries worldwide.

Using proprietary processes, CEM adds value to Freeport-McMoRan mineral assets by optimizing these materials for a variety of applications.

Unique CEM products include molybdenum powders optimized for coating of automotive parts and molybdenum powders used in flat-panel displays. Most new CEM products are protected by U.S. and international patents.

In 2005, Climax Engineered Materials acquired Kinetics, a leading manufacturer of Metal Injection Molded parts. Kinetics technology enables cost-effective fabrication of small, complex metal parts, using metal powders as a starting material to eliminate the need for expensive machining.
